In this episode Lars talks to Kevin Ashworth, who is a licensed therapist and the clinical director of North West Anxiety Clinic in Portland, Oregon. We discuss anxiety, psychological treatments like cognitive behavioral therapy, and how we talk about and deal with these issues in our society.
What is anxiety, and what is the difference between the kind of anxiety we all have and feel, and anxiety that needs treatment? How do we deal with our own emotions, what sorts of perspectives and tools can we use in dealing with them, and where do these approaches come from? Is anxiety a rising problem in our societies today, and in that case, why?
There’s a lot of things we don’t know about these topics, and this conversation is also an essay in trying to distinguish between what we do know and what we don’t know, and the importance of admitting our own limits and ignorance.
